While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present slight or zero threat, several dozen have been associated to considerable medical conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in water, food, and several other common goods. Yet, no group of consumer goods is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Heritage Eyeshadow (Monument).
