While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose limited or zero danger, several dozen are associated with severe health issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.
