While the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose slight or no danger, some are associated with serious health conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and several other commonly used goods. Yet, no group of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics, including Heritage Eyeshadow (Narrate a Story). While many of the chemicals in cosmetics most likely present minimal risk, being exposed to a few is associated with major health conditions, including cancer.
