While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or absolutely no risk, several have been linked to considerable health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other everyday items.
