Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and a lot of other common products. Yet, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including THE BASIC MOMENT BLUSH PALETTE (YET TO COME). Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present little risk, being exposed to some is linked to critical health concerns, such as cancer.
