While many chemicals in cosmetics present little or no threat, several have been associated to severe health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and many other everyday items. Yet, no classification of consumer items is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Pure Matte Lips (Dare to Dream). Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics almost certainly pose little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to worrying health problems, such as cancer.
