While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose very little or no threat, several dozen have been associated with serious medical issues, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used items.
