While the majority of chemicals in beauty products present little or zero threat, several dozen have been associated to severe health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and several other ordinary items.
