Though most chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or zero risk, several have been associated to serious health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and several other commonly used products. But, no area of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Caramel Melange (Edible Gem).
