Although many chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no threat, several dozen have been associated with significant health issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and many other ordinary products. Still, no type of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyes Right mascara. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present little risk, exposure to some has been associated with serious health concerns, including cancer.
