While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose very little or zero threat, several dozen have been associated with severe medical conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other ordinary products. Still, no area of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Breath of God.
