Although the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose very little or absolutely no threat, some have been linked with serious health conditions, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used products. Still, no group of consumer products is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 8. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics in all likelihood present minimal risk, being exposed to a few has been linked to worrying health concerns, including cancer.
