While most chemicals in cosmetics pose little or zero threat, several dozen are linked with serious health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and several other ordinary items. But, no area of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 8. Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics very likely present little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with major health concerns, such as cancer.
