Though many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present limited or no risk, several have been linked to significant medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other ordinary items. Yet, no classification of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 9. While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics in all likelihood pose little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to critical health concerns, such as cancer.
