Though most chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or no risk, several are linked to severe health conditions, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and many other everyday items. Still, no classification of consumer items is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 10. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, subjection to a few is linked to worrying health disorders, including cancer.
