While most chemicals in cosmetic products pose very little or no threat, several have been linked to severe health issues, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and several other commonly used goods. But, no classification of consumer goods is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 10. Although most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, exposure to a few is linked to substantial health concerns, such as cancer.
