Though many chemicals in cosmetic products pose hardly any or zero danger, several have been linked to significant health problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and many other commonly used products. Still, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 12. Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics likely pose very little risk, your exposure to some is linked to substantial health issues, including cancer.
