Although many chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or no threat, dozens have been associated to serious health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and a lot of other commonly used goods. Still, no area of consumer goods is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 12. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics probably pose little risk, subjection to some is associated with serious health conditions, including cancer.
