Though most chemicals in beauty products present hardly any or no threat, several dozen have been associated to serious health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other common goods. But, no classification of consumer goods is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 13. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood pose little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with critical health concerns, including cancer.
