While many chemicals in cosmetics pose minimal or absolutely no threat, several are associated with significant medical conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into a person's body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and several other common items. Yet, no classification of consumer items is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 13. Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose minimal risk, being exposed to a few is associated with worrying health disorders, including cancer.
