Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and various other common products. Still, no sector of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including my blusher (cream) 4. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood pose minimal risk, subjection to a few has been linked to significant health disorders, including cancer.
