Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and various other commonly used goods. Yet, no type of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics, including my blusher (cream) 5. Although most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics probably pose very little risk, subjection to a few has been linked to significant health issues, such as cancer.
