While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics present limited or zero risk, several are linked to substantial medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other ordinary products. Yet, no group of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my highlighter (cream) 1. While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely present very little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to worrying health problems, including cancer.
