Although most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or absolutely no danger, dozens have been linked to serious medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and many other common items. However, no classification of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 16. Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics almost certainly pose minimal risk, subjection to a few has been linked to worrying health issues, including cancer.
