Chemicals in cosmetics get into your body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and lots of other ordinary items. However, no area of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 16. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics in all likelihood pose minimal risk, exposure to some has been linked to major health problems, including cancer.
