Chemicals in cosmetics invade a person's body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and several other commonly used goods. However, no group of consumer goods is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 16. Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood present minimal risk, subjection to a few is linked to critical health concerns, including cancer.
