While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics present limited or absolutely no danger, several dozen are associated to serious medical issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food and many other common items. But, no area of consumer items is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 17. While many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products most likely present little risk, subjection to some is linked to significant health issues, such as cancer.
