While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no danger, some have been linked with substantial medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and many other common goods. However, no type of consumer goods is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 17. While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics very likely pose minimal risk, exposure to some has been associated with critical health conditions, including cancer.
