Although most chemicals in cosmetics present slight or absolutely no threat, some are linked with severe medical conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other ordinary items. Yet, no classification of consumer items is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 19. While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics very likely present very little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to substantial health disorders, such as cancer.
