Although many chemicals in beauty products present slight or zero threat, several have been linked with significant health issues, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other ordinary goods. Yet, no kind of consumer goods is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 19.
