While many chemicals in beauty products pose hardly any or no threat, dozens have been associated with serious health issues, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and many other common products. Still, no group of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 20. While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, subjection to a few has been linked to worrying health issues, such as cancer.
