Although most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present minimal or no threat, several are linked with significant medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and many other common goods. But, no classification of consumer goods is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 20. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics in all likelihood pose very little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with serious health conditions, such as cancer.
