Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and various other ordinary products. However, no area of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 24. Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely pose little risk, being exposed to some is linked to significant health problems, including cancer.
