While most chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or zero threat, some are linked with substantial health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used products. But, no category of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 24. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely pose little risk, exposure to a few is linked to major health concerns, such as cancer.
