Although most chemicals in beauty products present very little or no risk, dozens are linked to severe medical problems, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and several other ordinary products. Yet, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 26. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics likely pose very little risk, subjection to a few is associated with critical health conditions, such as cancer.
