While most chemicals in beauty products present limited or absolutely no threat, several dozen have been associated to significant medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other common items. Still, no category of consumer items is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 27.
