While the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose very little or absolutely no threat, several dozen are linked to severe health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common goods. Yet, no type of consumer goods is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 27. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics probably present minimal risk, being exposed to a few is linked to substantial health concerns, including cancer.
