While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or absolutely no threat, some have been linked to serious health problems, such as neurological harm and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and a lot of other everyday products.
