While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present limited or absolutely no threat, dozens are associated with significant medical issues, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and many other commonly used items. But, no group of consumer items is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 33. Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely pose little risk, exposure to some is linked to major health issues, including cancer.
