Although many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no risk, several have been associated with significant health problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics invade your body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food and many other everyday goods. Still, no area of consumer goods is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 34. While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose little risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with critical health conditions, including cancer.
