While most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or zero threat, some are associated with considerable health issues, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other commonly used products. However, no category of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 36. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics in all likelihood present little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to significant health problems, such as cancer.
