Though many chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or no danger, dozens are linked with serious medical problems, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other everyday items. Yet, no category of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 37. While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose minimal risk, subjection to some is associated with worrying health concerns, including cancer.
