Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose limited or no risk, several have been associated with significant medical problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and many other common products. However, no kind of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (shimmer) 39. While most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics very likely present very little risk, subjection to some has been linked to significant health issues, including cancer.
