Though many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present little or no threat, dozens are associated with significant medical conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food and lots of other common goods. However, no classification of consumer goods is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (eye primer). While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose very little risk, exposure to a few is linked to substantial health conditions, including cancer.
