Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or zero risk, dozens are associated with considerable health problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and several other commonly used products. But, no group of consumer products is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (eye primer). Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose minimal risk, your exposure to some is associated with significant health issues, including cancer.
