While many chemicals in cosmetic products pose very little or absolutely no danger, some are linked with considerable health problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used goods. Yet, no area of consumer goods is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 8. Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics probably pose minimal risk, being exposed to some has been linked to serious health conditions, including cancer.
