While many chemicals in beauty products pose little or zero danger, dozens are associated with substantial medical conditions, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other everyday products. However, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 12.
