While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose very little or absolutely no danger, dozens have been associated to serious health problems, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and pose similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and lots of other commonly used products.
