While many chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or no threat, several have been associated to significant health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other everyday goods. However, no category of consumer goods is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 17. Although most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present little risk, subjection to some has been linked to critical health issues, such as cancer.
