Although many chemicals in cosmetics present very little or zero risk, several dozen are linked with significant medical problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other everyday items. But, no classification of consumer items is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (matte) 18.
