Though most chemicals in cosmetic products present minimal or zero danger, several dozen have been associated with substantial health issues, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and lots of other common products. Still, no area of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (matte) 19. Although most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present very little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with major health problems, such as cancer.
