While many chemicals in cosmetics pose little or zero risk, several have been linked to considerable medical issues, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and many other common items. However, no classification of consumer items is accountable to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 19. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present very little risk, subjection to some has been linked to significant health problems, including cancer.
