Although many chemicals in cosmetics present slight or no threat, several dozen are associated to severe health conditions, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common items. However, no group of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (matte) 26. While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics in all likelihood pose little risk, subjection to a few has been associated with significant health concerns, including cancer.
