While the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or zero threat, some are linked to severe medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other ordinary items. Still, no category of consumer items is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (matte) 26. Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly pose very little risk, being exposed to a few is linked to significant health issues, including cancer.
