Although many chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or absolutely no threat, several have been associated with substantial medical problems, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and various other common products. But, no area of consumer products is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 27. While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with major health disorders, including cancer.
