Chemicals in cosmetics can enter your body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and many other ordinary goods. But, no kind of consumer goods is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 27.
