Although the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present slight or no risk, several have been associated to substantial health problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other ordinary items. But, no type of consumer items is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (matte) 32. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably present minimal risk, exposure to a few has been associated with critical health concerns, such as cancer.
