While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present limited or absolutely no threat, several are linked with significant medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals invade a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used goods. But, no category of consumer goods is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 1. Although most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely pose very little risk, being exposed to some is associated with major health issues, including cancer.
