Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or zero risk, several dozen have been associated to severe medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food and several other ordinary goods. Yet, no category of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal care products, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 1. Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics most likely pose very little risk, subjection to some is linked to significant health problems, including cancer.
