Though many chemicals in beauty products pose limited or no threat, several dozen have been linked with serious health issues, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other commonly used products. However, no kind of consumer products is accountable to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 3. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present little risk, being exposed to some is linked to worrying health concerns, including cancer.
