Though many chemicals in cosmetics pose very little or zero threat, several are associated to serious medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other everyday goods. But, no group of consumer goods is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 5. Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely pose little risk, subjection to some is associated with substantial health concerns, such as cancer.
