Although many chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or no danger, several have been associated with considerable medical issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and several other commonly used items. Yet, no group of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 12. Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present minimal risk, exposure to some has been linked to significant health concerns, including cancer.
