Although many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present minimal or no risk, several have been linked to significant medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and various other ordinary goods. Still, no type of consumer goods is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 13. Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics likely present little risk, exposure to a few has been linked to critical health issues, such as cancer.
