Though most chemicals in cosmetic products present hardly any or absolutely no risk, several are linked with severe medical conditions, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and various other everyday products. Still, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 14. Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics very likely pose very little risk, being exposed to a few has been linked to serious health concerns, including cancer.
