Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or absolutely no danger, dozens have been linked with substantial health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used goods. Yet, no classification of consumer goods is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 14. Although most of the chemicals in cosmetics likely pose little risk, exposure to some is associated with critical health concerns, including cancer.
