While most chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or zero threat, some have been linked with serious health problems, including neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and many other ordinary items. But, no classification of consumer items is susceptible to less government management than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 16. Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely present little risk, exposure to a few is associated with significant health problems, including cancer.
