Though many chemicals in cosmetics present very little or zero danger, several dozen are linked with severe health problems, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and several other everyday items. However, no sector of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including my eyeshadow (glitter) 19. While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products likely pose minimal risk, exposure to some is linked to substantial health concerns, including cancer.
